Open Question: I have a mouse problem.. Have had it for a long time.. Should I get a cat?
Its summer, and they came from our log cabin. There are too many holes and cracks to cover, because we’d never be able to find them all. Now they’re in the house. The other day, one it through our wiring, and actually blew the breaker. Yes that mouse is fried now.

I don’t leave food out, we’re very clean, but I have a 2 year old boy and I’m terrified of him getting sick from a mouse. It’s also quite disgusting to sometimes open the cupboard and see holes chewed in the bottom of our food, as I don’t know where they’re COMING from or HOW they’re getting up there. I have 2 minpins, who are decent mousers, they catch one every few weeks, but the mice come out at night and the dogs are always with me. Should I get a cat?

Open Question: Ideas needed for washing a log cabin?
By those who are not experts in log cabins, power washing has been suggested to clean the exterior of my log cabin. Then some experts in log cabins say power washing is fine, if a low spray 500 something or other is used and it is done by an experienced power washer (so no water goes inside). I’m thinking of washing it myself with oxiclean (so not toxic) and brushes. What kind of brushes (I dont want to ruin the wood)… What do you think about this plan? And what is the timeline for staining after cleaning (is the wood “open” and porous and should be stained asap?) I’ve been researching and getting assessments from people who power wash and the info is contradictory… Thanks

Open Question: Does anyone have a source for logs for a log cabin (the ones that fit together). Any favorite woods?
I want to add a 18×24 sunroom onto my log cabin. I’m getting the idea that logs would be cheaper than framing the area out. I dont want to get reused wood because of potential creosote … but what is the best wood to live with in terms of creating a healthy home inside and a low maintenance one outside (I live in the NE and need to be insulated from the cold and have a wood that survives the winters)? THANKS!
